Clayton-le-Woods Scarecrow Festival 2018
So, What is a scarecrow festival?
Scarecrow festivals are held all over the world but they are particularly popular in the UK, where the use of scarecrows as a protector of crops dates from time immemorial. Today, hundreds of villages all over the UK bring colour vibrancy and fun to their neighbourhoods by organising scarecrow festivals.
This year the Scarecrow festival will be held 9th-22nd July 2018 and the closing date for entries is 6th July 2018.
There are four categories for judging entries listed below:
- Business/Organisations (i.e. shops, supermarkets, community groups and churches)
- Education/Uniformed Groups (i.e. schools, nurseries, cubs, scouts, brownies and guides)
- Families and Individuals 16 years and over
- Child/Children - under 16 years (Majority of the work must be undertaken by child/children)
Cash prizes will be up for grabs and rosettes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd placed scarecrows in each category
